So - last night, I got a wee bit giddy. Feist! On Sesame Street! SINGING ABOUT THE NUMBER 4! We live in a GOLDEN AGE!

Fueled up with fizzing joy and renewed numeracy, I trawled the internet and played archivist.

Submitted for your approval: a list of musical guests on Sesame Street, available on YouTube.

Brought to you by letters F, A and B, and the number of glasses of pink wine I'd been drinking. YAY SESAME STREET!

The best of the young whippersnappers:
James Blunt with 'My Triangle'
and
(oh sweet jesus) Norah Jones singing 'Don't Know Y'... to the letter Y.

The other recent ones:
Andrea Bocelli (SO CUTE - 'so why don't you give me a hug?'); Hootie & the Blowfish; Nsync; Destiny's Child; Backstreet Boys; Alicia Keys; Chris Brown; Sheryl Crow; India Arie; Patti LaBelle; Goo Goo Dolls; Dixie Chicks.

The best of the oldies:
The most groove-alicioius rendition of all time: Stevie Wonder - Superstitious and 1,2,3 Sesame Street
and
Johnny Cash (twice!): 'Nasty Dan' and 'Don't Take Your Ones to Town' -
(three times if we count 'Ronnie Trash')

Classic goodness:
Yo Yo Ma; Billy Joel; James Taylor; Ray Charles; Smokey Robinson; Cab Calloway (holy crap!); Paul Simon; Tito Puente; Bobby McFerrin; Aaron Neville; Madeline Kahn; Tony Bennett; Harry Belafonte; Gloria Estefan ("she's going to teach us to count and do something ELSE at the same time! Boy, I hope I don't get dizzy and fall down!").

Honourable mentions:
Philip Glass going insane with geometry
and
Tracy Chapman thinks we should all ask questions.

My favourite of favourite ones:
The best rendition of 'Two Princes' I could ever, ever, evereverever hope to see: Spin Doctors
and
a perfect Muppet-Human collaboration: REM.

What'd I miss? Send in extra links to the comments!

And chew on this - *I didn't even make a start on the Muppets*. Seriously - are Jim Henson's creations the cradle of our musical culture?

Edit: have added Yo Yo Ma to the list - thanks, Mining Mayhem!

Awesome! Thanks, MM - I've added Yo Yo Ma to the list. And so it begins (our power is great).

Dana - those clips rock my world. Sesame Street just makes the whole day *better*. Plus, *now* I know how to think visually, wheee!
