It's an injection of pure happiness, straight to our hearts!
But do you know what would make it even *better*? If you guys sang along to it, with Mister Munroe's new super-amazing lyrics. It's... sing-along-a-xkcd!
The challenge is this: send us a video file of yourself, singing the xkcd Song of Awesomeness. And we'll mash 'em up, all in a bowl, and produce (with a flourish, and a garnish of unbridled joy), a video of all the clips together.
It's an xkcd music video - and we want YOU in it!
Send your clip babies to we.are.fabulist@gmail.com. Use mime! And props! And do your happy dance thing! The world is YOURS, kids! (don't you just love it?)
Fabulisters and Fabulistas: GO!
Q1: What's the key, baby?
Written in the key of LIFE, kids. And C sharp. In other words, we're following the melody exactly as it sounds in the Discovery Channel video. Nice and straightforward :)
Have a listen to the two sample MP3s if you're a-wondering:) The first has a piano line, the other has the lovely Olga singing. If you keep to roughly them there notes, in roughly that order, it should work out well enough. And if you don't? Grand! That's how the *fun* gets in...
Q2: How fast can I drive this thing?
Not too fast (just across the border and into the city). Don't worry about it too much :)
That said? It'll help to sync things up if we're marching at roughly the same time (attenSHUN, about TURN, left/right/left/right/left/right/LEFT). Our magical sample MP3s should help again. Keep to roughly that speed, and we should be able to get the clips to play nice with each other.
But hey! If you want to do things crazy, Alvin & the Chipmunks style? who are we to stand in your way? We'll make it work. You are artistes. We are but the cupped hands gently holding you aloft to the world. Do your thing :)
(Also, you are teeny tiny pixies, and we have huge freakish giant hands. It's stands to reason.)
Q3: What format video do you want?
Whatever you can send in :)
If you have proper-camera-stuff, we like DVD-quality MPEG2 compression, or MPEG4 even. If you have no idea what that means? No sweat. Take ye olde digital camera, point it at yourself, take video. It's as simple as that.
If you're doing a scene, rather than the entire song, it'd be useful to have a wee bit of extra footage just before, and just after, your segment. It gives us something to stick it down with. A lip of paper for the sellotape. A bendy bit to tuck behind the fold. Well, no. But it's a fun metaphor, and we're sticking to it.
Q4: What's the deadline? I need a deadline!
If you get things to us by 12 July, should be good. We will then crank and crunch and rotate it and spin, and make some Rube Goldberg machine of musical wonder. Stand by and see what happens!
Q5: I am a creature of silvery notes and forgotten melodies. I play the piano/guitar/glokenspiel/triangle/edge of my desk, and want to contribute something to the backing track. Can I do this?
Yes! Send all mp3 glories to the usual cubbyhole (we.are.fabulist@gmail.com).

I was glad to see this post...I love xkcd, but I hadn't seen the Discovery Channel commercial (awesome!), so i was a little mystified.
Incidentally, if you feel motivated to actually film yourself _doing_ one of the things depicted in the webcomic, rather than just singing, you may want to participate at http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=24319
