Here's part three of Nathalie Boisard-Beudin's coverage of Designer Block Milan!

19.The ChorusDesignGroup had their Paoloa urban couch – complete with lamp – on display. It is part of a on-going project that they have (called The Urban Room) to bring objects which are interior inspired into the outside world. This interesting piece of urban furniture is still looking for producers. More on this project and other at their site: www.chorusdesigngroup.it

20. More furniture from Falinc's, an Australian designer group. I loved the “Holier Than Thou” outdoor chairs and tables, they were perfect for the pool. Have a look at their other products at: www.falinc.com.au

21. But not all was strictly utilitarian at the show and there was room for pure art, in that of Heather Smith's project “Come Rain or Shine,” where wood and metal art pieces are brought in conjunction with the natural elements, thus allowing nature itself to add to the pattern and decoration. This is a detail from panels left to enjoy the rain and sunshine of Milano. You will find more about the project and other works by Heather there: www.heathersmithcollection.com

22. Other designers seemed however bent on fighting the elements, as was the case for Anna Ferrino, whose strange “Love Capsules”, standing nests were seen from afar at the fair and intriguing. They are individual shelters adorned with three entrances for conviviality. The items clearly stem from the family business of outdoor gear. All the articles shown - shelters, sleeping bags or garments - are made of lightweight water resistant and soft warm lining. Have a look at the slide show on the collection's site: www.ferrino1870.com

23. The Fortune Chicken of Dutch team Design Species. The creatures come with the message “Smash this chicken in times of confusion and great despair” Each chicken contains a secret, a smile but you can only get it by smashing the chicken: Is knowing the secret worth parting with the creature (or parting with the secret)? The whole concept is presented as a game of self discipline. I just like the idea of having a secret which is not a burden. More information about the chickens at: www.fortune-chickens.com More projects by Design Species all about recycling and keeping a balance in life: www.designspecies.org

24. And the Save the Bananas project by the ladies of Arabeschi di Latte. Because they have noted the intimate importance of food in our lives, the group has decided to produce public events that are food related. The one present at DesignerBlock was to sensibilize people to the fact that due to over production, the babana trees were under stress and might come to disappear. Since I am a strong believer that bananas are in general very badly treated, the event had my full support. More about Arabeschi di Latte at their blog: arabeschidilatte.blog.aruba.it or at their site: www.arabeschidilatte.org
