Wandering around the internet today, I stumbled upon Vling!, home of adorable, affordable, one of a kind jewelry made from recycled vinyl records (including some out of colored vinyl!) I'm pretty in love; in fact, I've already purchased the gramophone necklace on the left hand side of the post there. Check out the kitty, lightning bolt, guitar, cassette tape, skull, and more designs for yourself. There's something for everybody.
Cute new Tullycraft video for the song "Georgette Plays A Goth" off their album that came out yesterday, Every Scene Needs A Center. More info on the video here, purchase their twee-tastic new album here!
Imagine my surprise when I stepped outside this morning and had to immediately run back in and grab a sweater. It's finally cold here! In Austin! I am more than excited. Good riddance, summer. Hopefully today is not a fluke.
Last week was a good one for fans of triumphant, orchestral pop. Sweden's Jens Lekman and indie wunderkind Beirut both released great new albums ("Night Falls Over Kortedala" and "The Flying Club Cup", respectively.) If you're familiar with either band, you'll be getting pretty much what you'd except: Clever, catchy, tough-in-cheek tunes from Jens and grand, old-timey, beautiful pieces from Beirut. Here's something old and something new by each of these lovely artists.
I'm in love with Marjane Satrapi and chomping at the bit for the new movie coming out based on her best-selling graphic novel Persepolis (aren't we so self-referential?). And because of that deep, abiding love, here's a link to an interview with the lady herself, wherein she discusses the four basic cornerstones of life: Bruce Lee, Iggy Pop, french fries with ketchup, and anti-anxiety medication.
Ah, The Hype Machine. They've gone and done something sneaky. Sneaky!
They've a brand new site, but it won't actually be launched until 10,000 people are visiting their site at the same time. So! Open the page. Leave it open. Tell your friends. I can't wait to see what they've done with the place.
This morning I found a happy surprise of an unreleased track by The Velvet Teen in my inbox-- it is a homeless song at present, belonging to no LP as of yet, but they're debuting it on their brand spankin' new tour: dates here. And you know what? It's a perfect Sunday roll out of bed into some warm tea and windy day sort of song. More Velvet goodness on the Hype.
Joey Lawrence's portrait photography is evocate and very nakedly human. Specifically go to the gallery and check out his homeless set. Really wonderful. (Part of me also wants this.)
Kids I've been extravagantly lazy and haven't picked a winner for the U2 DVD contest yet-- for shame on me! But it's good news for you folk: go enter. Really. I feel a bout of anti-laziness that is fit to strike and I could pick a winner at ANY MOMENT. Therefore, as we all know you really want a U2 PopMart Live from Mexico City DVD all your very own, do what's best for the both of us and enter now.
I really hope this comes back. if it doesn't, you should hand it off to someone! I'm sure anyone (including myself) would love to take over fabulist and bring it back with a vengeance!
