I realize I haven't done many posts about artists recently, so allow me to share my love for Julie Knoblock and her Etsy store Tummy Ache. She uses a lot of word bubbles in her art, which I like. And sometimes there are flying elephants!
AND she has a blog, but it's in Australian, so be forewarned.
I've been very into hairpins lately, but besides all that, every single item in Tilly Bloom's Etsy store has me enraptured. I think I'm in love with the entire concept of illustration jewelry now.
Bat for Lashes' video for "What's a Girl to Do" manages to be simultaneously super creepy and hilarious to me, somehow. Watching it feels like watching myself dream. I apparently have super creepy, hilarious dreams.
I like the idea of some coiled up cobra-looking thing sitting in my corner holding all my stuff for me. So far, this is the closest thing I've found to realizing that dream.
The thing I love most about this toaster is that when turned on, it has this glowing red quality about it that makes it look like an infernal tape deck, devilishly converted into a toaster and released from the very jaws of Hell to infiltrate our kitchens with its coolness. And to frustrate us with the fact that it apparently only makes one piece of toast at a time. But that's okay, because it's so, so neat.
Thanks to MobMov, I got to watch this 1965 short by Rene Laloux projected onto a wall somewhere in Berkeley last night. It's not for all tastes, but if you dig giant animated snails, you're in luck. They're here in absolute droves.
It's times like these that I say God bless advertising. As if the Sony Bravia bouncing ball ad wasn't awesome enough, now I get to wait with bated breath for the Play-Doh bunnies to take over New York City! Life is too good.
I sent the song "Imitosis" to a friend tonight as his introduction to Andrew Bird. An hour later, I found the debut of the new video for the song on the Andrew Bird Myspace blog. Coincidence, or something far more sinister?
I always thought brooches looked like goddamn bugs, too.
I'm going through a bit of a rubber boots phase lately, despite the fact that there hasn't been any rain here for literally months. So I'm happy to see someone's out there doing the good work of making some really cutie pie galoshes, for when the monsoon season finally arrives. Yay for Plueys!
