BY LAND OF MUSIC

I think I like Gary Lightbody (of Snow Patrol) best when he collaborates with female singers. One of my favorite songs in the world is a duet he did with Martha Wainwright -- and here he is doing a beautiful duet with Lisa Hannigan, called Some Surprise. (Lisa Hannigan who until recently, played in support of Damien Rice.)

The ditty is from The Cake Sale, which features Mr. Rice as well as Emm Gryner and Gemma Hayes and a pile of other talented folk. (And! It's a charity album for Fair Trade. So you can't go wrong.) You can listen to more here and here -- thanks to Miss Elaine Doyle for sending it over!

Yup-- the split sounds like it wasn't on friendly terms. The good news is Lisa's embarking on a solo career. From Damien's website:

Band update - 25 Mar 2007
After much thought and discussion Damien has decided that his professional relationship with Lisa Hannigan has run its creative course. As a result Lisa will not be appearing at any of the upcoming live shows. Lisa is embarking on her own artistic endeavours and there are no plans for them to work together in the foreseeable future. The current band on tour at the moment are - Damien Rice, Joel Shearer, Shane Fitzsimons, Tom Osander & Vyvienne Long.

Ha - well rumour has it the Damien/Lisa split came about because she and Gary Lightbody got together! Life imitating art, etc...
