El Perro Del Mar (aka Sarah Assbring, the sole member of the “band”) is what happens when a lonely Swede spends a lot of time with her Smokey Robinson and Supremes records. Whether she’s singing about buying candy or going to a party all the songs on the album follow the same formula of repeated lyrics, wafting background harmonies, and subtle instrumentation to get her point across. Her point in most cases is that she's not very happy. That’s not to say that it’s a bad album. Quite the contrary. The balance of her melancholy voice and perky harmonies are a perfect mix.
