I was very, very in love with The Decemberists for a long while. These past few months, I'd been unable to listen to them; I was getting bored by the songs I once would have on repeat. That's not to say that the problem was with them and not me, it's just the way things were. Now, thankfully, all is well again, as the new Decemberists album, "The Crane Wife", that has "allegedly" leaked and that I may or may not have heard is, "theoretically", pretty fucking good. Seriously beautiful, very different. Fans of the twenty minute masterpiece "The Tain" will especially be pleased. I cannot post any songs because 1)apparently it is not okay to do so and 2)they'd have to be removed in about two seconds anyway, so here are some older Decemberists/Decemberists related tunes for you. If you're faster at the intrawebs than Colin Meloy (though you'll probably never be as dreamy), you may be able to find some tracks from the new album before they get taken down, but be sure to be good, honest folks and buy "The Crane Wife" when it comes out on October 3rd.
The Decemberists - The Tain (Parts I, II, III, IV, V)
The Decemberists - Song For Myla Goldberg (from Her Majesty)
Colin Meloy - Bandit Queen (live at The Zoo 8/10/05)
Colin Meloy - The Ballad Of El Goodo (Big Star cover)
Tarkio - Helena Won't Get Stoned (Colin's previous band)

Also, I've been listening to the older stuff all morning and I must say, I do love it again. Oh joy, oh rapture!

I have to say thanks for this eye- er, ear-opening post. I'd never heard of this band before. I'm listening to Picaresque now, and it's amazing.
So... thanks.
