So. I finally made it through the new Mountain Goats album, "Get Lonely". Third time was a charm. If you know anything about me, you know that there must be something big if I turn off a brand new Mountain Goats album half way through, twice. I'll tell ya, it's like John Darnielle has been following me around for the past month or two. Personal connections to this album aside, "Get Lonely" will be the best album choice for many people (including myself) when the end of the year rolls around. It is devastatingly sad, beautiful, and, at times, triumphant. The production is flawless, and even fans that prefer his older, more rough sounding songs will appreciate the immense amount of care that undoubtedly went into making this record. Darinelle sings in this soft, tender voice that was before reserved for a select few songs; now there is an entire album full of this voice, and it is heartbreaking.
I don't want to post any songs from the album yet myself, as I don't know if it's legit and John Darinelle is the last person on Earth I'd want to piss off, so I shall direct you to some amazing blogs you should be reading anyway that have posted some songs: here, here, and here. That last one, "If You See Light", is short and sweet, and definitely one of the stand outs on "Get Lonely".

Here's a funny little bootleg bonus for you:
Ignition (R. Kelly cover to Peter's ring tone). Something about John singing Kells makes me extremely happy.
