This is sort of mind-boggling, but the Cirque du Soleil is producing a show centered entirely around the music of the Beatles. They've even got video clips up on their website. This is the first time I've heard of a Cirque show that wasn't entirely based on the fantastic... I wonder if in the future we'll have corporate-sponsored Cirque performances? The Cirque du Soleil presents: Volkswagen!

I caught these bags online last week, and then peeped them with my own very eyes at Urban Outfitters this weekend. Not only that, but two weeks ago I ran into someone in the street wearing the same Tokidoki shirt that I had on my little body. I'm telling you, kids, Tokidoki has their eye on world takeover.
They've teamed with LeSportsac to put out a line of wallets/purses/totes/messenger bags printed with Tokidoki illustrations. Each bag-- when ordered online, I didn't see these at UO-- comes with it's own official Tokidoki Qee toy.

So I don't really read comic books. (The last time I said this in front of Jewlie, she laughed, and pointed out I had read x, and y, and z, and that definitely meant I did read comics.)
Hm. How about: I don't really read typical comic books. I love the idea of comic books, but in practice, most things aren't my taste. So here's a reading list for your sunny Memorial Day afternoon, when you're lounging in the shade at your friend's barbecue. If you're the sort who doesn't read comics.
In no particular order:
1. Blankets by Craig Thompson
2. A Tale of One Bad Rat by Brian Talbot
3. Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman
4. It's A Bird by Steven E. Seagle
5. The Fountain by Darren Aronofsky & Kent Williams
6. Flight Volume One by a lot of people
7. Good-bye, Chunky Rice by Craig Thompson
8. Tricked by Alex Robinson

Book Of Cool is a DVD book of tricks. All kinds of tricks. You can learn how to pen-twirl, juggle, lasso, shoot pool, do magic, breakdance, yo-yo, quick-draw a gun and pour shots behind your back while catching cherries in your mouth on a toothpick.
Oh yeah.
Basically, if you follow the instructional DVD, you will end up being the coolest person at any party.

I'm two posts away from declaring a Fabulist toast section. (To which Jewlie shakes her head and says, man! You and your toast!) But can you blame me?
Here's a quirky doodad that stamps the Virgin Mary into toast. If you pick this one up fast enough, it will make you your money back in the eBay auctions alone.

Demeter Fragrance Library has been around for a bit-- I discovered them when Sarah gifted me with their Waffles & Wet Garden fragrance. (That's actually two separate smells, but I like to spray them at the same time.) It's like Jelly Bellies for your nose. Except, well... a good deal stranger. Here are my favorite combos: Holy Water and Dirt. Rubber and a Riding Crop. Sushi and a Paperback.
...and, wonder of wonders, they just came out with a smell for Play-Doh, to mark the squishy stuff's 50th birthday. Which has just jumped to the top of my list.

I found this great print over at we heart prints, and thought, man, I wish that came in a shirt. And, surprise! It does.
From Gary's site: "Since cameras were once thought to have been able to steal people's spirits, these old cameras must have a lot of them just laying around."

Gama-Go has been around, but every season they manage to come up with lovely stuff, like their sardine and cigarette pack iPod cases. Mostly, though, I crush on their girly shirts, but I think they offer something for everyone in their spectrum of cuteness.

AJ Dimarucot of Collision Theory sent over a batch of his recent works-- my favorite is this very slick, screenprinted ottoman that glows from the inside. It's for sale on a limited run; check the site for more info.

Ye Scurvy Sisters Lunchbox is one of the many cute things over at Plasticland, which sells cute clothes and a variety of products designed by artists. (Like one of our favorites, Elizabeth McGrath.) They are a purveyor of fun things, just the way we like 'em.

"Danceable melancholia for the depressed" is how Joey Beats (of Non-Prophets fame) describes his latest album of remixes Indie Rock Blues. It features beautiful remixes of Belle and Sebastian, Cursive, Minutemen, Andrew Bird, Black Heart Procession, Deerhoof, and more, and I couldn't think of a better way to describe it than he has already. If anyone books shows in LA, can you get the Joe Beats Trio out here for me? Thanks.
Sad Song (M. Ward)
Naomi (Neutral Milk Hotel)
Panda, Panda, Panda (Deerhoof)
Coxcomb Red (Songs:Ohia)
