BY LAND OF MUSIC
I had a fairly lengthy and interesting discussion with the awesome Matt of You Ain't No Picasso about artists from great bands who went solo and continued to make excellent music. Here's some of the best solo on my computer. These songs can do the kessel run in under 12 parsecs.

Let My Love Open The Door - Pete Townshend (The Who)
Hangin' Round - Lou Reed (The Velvet Underground)
The Great Intoxication - David Byrne (Talking Heads)
Trouble Loves Me - Morrisey (The Smiths)
The Mansion - John Vanderslice (MK Ultra)
Baby C'mon - Stephen Malkmus (Pavement)
Roll Plymouth Rock - Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys)
Biomusicology - Ted Leo (Chisel)

PS. I gave y'all so many songs today as an incentive for you to enter our bitchin' CONTEST, as if you need one. Baby, c'mon!

Speaking of VU, John Cale has always been a favorite of mine in this department. If I had to pick one song, it'd probably be "Fear Is A Man's Best Friend," but Paris 1919 is a fantastic album as well.

Also, "I Want To Live On An Abstract Plain" - Frank Black (Pixies), and if being in Roxy Music for a while counts, "St. Elmo's Fire" - Brian Eno.

Before anyone says anything, I know it's "(I Want To Live On An) Abstract Plain." Just...you know...covering my bases.
