Tiny Showcase is an artist collective that sells artwork under the creative commons license. (Here's my favorite piece.)
Each week we are going to pick a new piece of tiny artwork. The digital artwork reproduction braintrust at io labs, inc. in Providence, Rhode Island then takes that masterpiece and turns it into a limited-run print production. Each run is printed on 310gsm acid-free Hahnemühle German Etching Paper. It's UltraChrome ink is specially treated and sprayed, giving it an archival lifespan of over 60 years.

I can't even summarize how crazy this is.
THE 1 SECOND FILM is a non-profit collaborative film project bringing thousands of people around the world together- from some of Hollywood's biggest stars to great-grandmothers and gas-station attendants- all to create one-second of animation.
(And if you donate a dollar, you can be a producer listed in the IMDB!) (link)

>> On October 1, 2005 Art Production Fund (APF) will partner with the Ballroom, Marfa to present a permanent public sculpture titled Prada Marfa. The work will be located on the outskirts of Valentine, Texas near Marfa on desolate ranching land with no other visible trace of civilization. As one drives toward the artwork it will appear to be a large minimalist sculpture, as one gets closer it will look like a luxury boutique where a display of Fall 2005 high-heel Prada shoes and bags will be seen through the store front windows. Yet, one cannot open the door, it is a sealed time capsule and will never function as a place of commerce. (link)

>>Imagine this: Volkswagen plans to reveal its new Volkswagen Fox in the spring of 2005 in Copenhagen. Rather than let the auto-industry journalists that would be covering the event stay in your everyday, run-of-the-mill hotel room, Volkswagen creates Hotel Fox. After taking over the Parks Hotel in downtown Copenhagen, Volkswagen brought in 21 designers, illustrator, and urban artists to completely makeover the joint, in turn, giving birth to Hotel Fox. Needless to say, each room is a unique piece of art, worthy of a gallery space... but one that allows you the freedom of walking around in your underwear... (link) : via

I really hope this comes back. if it doesn't, you should hand it off to someone! I'm sure anyone (including myself) would love to take over fabulist and bring it back with a vengeance!

Both seem quite more sophisticated than I would have expected for those times. What fun to watch!
