There's a growing trend in bars around the world to hold designated nights allowing patrons to bring in their iPods and spend a limited time playing DJ on the house music system. [(link)](http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/02/23/ibar_ipod_iheadline/)

Richard Linklater, of Waking Life fame, is releasing another animated film- A Scanner Darkly, based on the Philip K. Dick novel of the same name. Improving upon the same rotoscoping techniques used in Waking Life, Darkly looks more vibrant and crisp than it's predecessor-- it probably doesn't hurt that Warner Brothers is backing the film, and that it features a star studded cast with the likes of Keanu Reeves, Woody Harrelson, and Winona Ryder. (It looks pretty good, even if it \*is\* Keanu.) (link) : via

I don't particularly read web-comics-- mostly because I am deeply in love with the tactile nature of actual books. (Diesel Sweeties could only woo me when it released a compendium of their web comic in book form.) So I was surprised when I discovered there's an online publication dedicated entirely to webcomics, and even better, a best-of for 2004. (I will forgive them for not mentioning Diesel Sweeties or Penny Arcade. They know not what they do.) (link)

Those of you who reminisce fondly on your flame-throwing toy cars of youth will appreciate this new kit: Axdo's Exhaust Flame Throwers.
Granted, it may be dangerous not only for the driver, but, say, for the many pedestrians who cross past the back of a car during rush hour in New York, but this is the closest you're ever going to get to having a Batmobile so we're not going to spoil your fun, alright?

Remember the post we put up the beginning of this month on Podcasting? Now Wired would like to give you their take on it, via an interview with Adam Curry.
Curry, 40, is the brains behind iPodder, a tiny application that he believes has the power to challenge commercial radio. iPodder is the bastard offspring of the blog and the Apple MP3 player. It combines the hyperactive talkiness of blogs and the hipness of iPods into something utterly new: the podcast. iPodder uses the blog syndication tool RSS to automatically download homebrew radio shows, podcasts, directly into a portable MP3 player.

iPod fever is now spreading to little peg blocks near you. Artist Tomi has created miniature Lego figurines with a matching miniature iPod. The figures are so popular that the initial run of 300 has already sold out. (link) : via

Product placement has become an old standard in films, television, and music videos-- so it was only a matter of time before enterprising minds set out to conquer the next frontier: gaming. Everquest has launched a deal with Pizza Hut that allows players to order pizza while in-game. (link) : via

Smash the Tones is a service that sends music to your phone. The world doesn't seem to sell your favorite obscure song as a ringtone? Now you can get it on your celly, for free.
They accept MP3's, WAV's, and a few other file types. They support every (US) phone carrier i've ever seen, and it's all free--when I checked it out the wait time was 28 minutes to have the tone delivered but for a small donation of $1.25 they move you to the front of the line.

If all the peeps you wanna love all over are too far away this VD... well, this won't help you, cause it ain't for sale yet. But it's spiffy!
hugms is a device designed for sending someone you care about a hug using your mobile phone. once hugms is connected to your mobile phone all you have to do is send it the phone number of the person you'd like to hug and then squeeze. sensors inside the device read how long and how hard you have squeezed and will format a text message based on your hug. for example, a long squeeze would look like

'hhhhhhuuuuuuuuuuggggggg'

while a short and hard squeeze would look like

'hhHHUUUUUUugg'

In an attempt to refurbish every available surface into a branding opportunity, the Japanese have begun to revamp barcodes into functional art pieces. Some samples include bar codes that look like houses, pizzas, and tidal waves-- they work like normal bar codes, and will be launched on a series of green tea beverages in Japan. (link) : via

Thank you for sharing both your story and the song. I listened to the song as I read the story, and I was there. Great way for me to end the work day.
